History

Tacoma Diesel and Equipment, Inc. was founded in 1969 by Jim Porter Sr. after working as a mechanic on Alaska crabbing boats. Jim and his team dedicated themselves to quality, timely service and built a reputation in the commercial fishing industry as a company that would keep fishermen fishing. We have since expanded our focus to include other types of diesel engines including residential and industrial generator sales and service. Our fully tooled and staffed diesel service shop and parts department serve customers throughout Alaska, Washington and in Sandpoint Idaho. We airfreight parts and fly our mechanics to the remotest parts of Alaska at a moment’s notice to keep fishermen fishing. Jim has retired and you’ll meet the same dedication to quality, timely work in his son, Mike Porter. Mike and his award-winning team are dedicated to meeting or exceeding Tacoma Diesel’s great reputation in the industry.
